Educational Outcomes

Children develop naturally and are eager to learn. At school we stimulate our students’ curiosity and we adapt to our students’ needs. If a student needs help in his/her development, we offer support. The school is organised by year groups. Children of the same age are usually in the same group. We try to take the individual child into account as much as possible.

In the International Department, students’ progress is monitored using the INCAS assessments developed by CEM (the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring). Students in Groups 4–7 are assessed within the first few weeks of the school year, or shortly after joining the ISE if they enrol later in the year. Group 3 students are assessed in January.

The INCAS assessments provide insight into students’ academic development in language and mathematics, as well as their overall learning skills. In addition, several other assessments are conducted throughout the school year to monitor progress in literacy and mathematics. Reading, writing, and phonics assessments take place two to three times per year, while mathematics assessments are conducted at the end of each unit cycle. The teacher’s observations in the classroom are of course an even more important part of monitoring progress and development.

In addition to academic achievement, we also place great importance on students’ social and emotional wellbeing. In the International Department, students’ social and emotional development is monitored using the ‘Emotional Literacy’ programme developed by NFER Nelson.

Students receive a report card three times per year. The first report, given out in the autumn, covers the social and emotional development of the student. The 2nd report, given out in the spring, and the 3rd, the end of year report, provide information about your child’s academic development. Students in our Early years group that are just 4 years old receive a social and emotional report during the term that they start at the ISE and an academic report in their final term.

Parents can request a conversation about the development of their child(ren) with the teacher at any time.
